EXPAND COLLAPSEYour journey begins after a delicious breakfast at your riad in Rabat. The drive typically takes about three and a half hours via the modern highway system. This transit offers a relaxing transition from the coastal atmosphere to the red city, with views of the changing Moroccan landscape along the way. Upon our arrival in Marrakech, you will be taken directly to your accommodation to check in and drop off your bags before beginning your afternoon exploration. Or relax for the busy day journey that lies ahead with a private local guide.
Your first stop is the Jardin Majorelle, a two-and-a-half-acre botanical garden that serves as one of the most visited sites in Morocco. Originally designed by the French painter Jacques Majorelle over forty years, the garden was later restored by the fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent. It is most famous for its striking "Majorelle Blue" buildings, which provide a vivid backdrop to a world-class collection of exotic plants, including towering cacti, groves of bamboo, and water lily ponds. The garden also houses the Pierre Bergé Museum of Berber Arts, which showcases a stunning collection of indigenous textiles and jewelry in the artist's former studio.
Following the vibrant colors of Majorelle, you will visit the Menara Gardens, which offer a completely different atmosphere centered on history and vast open space. Established in the 12th century by the Almohad Caliphate, these gardens were designed as both a royal retreat and a functional olive grove. The centerpiece is a massive reflecting pool that serves as a reservoir, fed by an ancient 700-year-old hydraulic system that brings water from the Atlas Mountains. The iconic 19th-century pavilion with its green-tiled roof stands at the water's edge, offering a famous panoramic view where the often snow-capped mountains are perfectly framed behind the reservoir.
After a full afternoon of exploring these historic green spaces, you will have the evening to relax. You might choose to enjoy a traditional dinner in the medina or simply unwind at your riad, reflecting on the transition from the modern highways to the ancient, lush landscapes of Marrakech.
